    Notes:

    !Social Security No. 432-44-7635

! The Hinshaw family was shown in the 1930 census (Apr 15 1930), 260 E.
    Wilson, Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan:
Hinshaw, William A., head-of-household, age 56, born in Kentucky; parents
born in Kentucky; rented home ($30 rent); no radio in home; occupation:

!William Alfred Hinshaw, *Berkley, (Ballard County - now Carlisle)
    Kentucky, b June 14, 1872, d 5-11-1958 at age 86 in East Prairie, Missouri
and buried in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri. William left
home at the age of 16.

!Married Kate Florence Cook, daughter of Sebrene and Polly Cook. Kate was
born November 1873, five months younger than William. She died when her
children were young, before 12-16-01 which is the date of his marriage to
his second wife, Lucy A. (Grace) Campbell. Some believe that Kate Florence
was 1/16 Cherokee Indian, although there seems to be no documentation of
this claim. William and Kate were married seven years and had three
children, Dora (about1893-1894); Millie Estelle (1896-1983); and Luther
Milton (1898 - 1961), with only Millie and Luther Undisclosed at the time of the
1900 Census, thus the marriage took place in approximately 1892 when
William was 20 and Kate was 19 years of age.

!On 11-18-1911 Lucy (the second wife) and William sold their undivided
interest in certain real estate to William's brother Luther L. According
to his third wife, Mary Ilene (Fleming) Hinshaw, Lucy was still alive
between 10-2-1925 and 2-9-1926 when Ilene wrote that because of poor
economic conditions she told William "I want to go to Mt. Clemens,
Michigan, so when he was gone to visit his SECOND FAMILY I started
    sewing and ....."

!The 1890 census of Mississippi County, MO lists William as working as a
saw mill laborer. He later operated a ferry boat (which ran from Dorena,
MO to Hickman, KY - the scenes of almost all this family's early history.

! Buried in the Hinshaw plot in the Brownsville Cemetery, Fulton Hickman
County, KY.; is William's father, Andrew Jackson (and other siblings/wives.

!William was 29 at the time of his second marriage to Lucy and she was
    32. Lucy had previously married William E. Campbell on 9-25-1884 in
Mississippi County MO and they had three children, Rosa F. (2-1889), James
    E. (10-1891) and George T. (3-1894). Lucy's parents were Judge James or
    I) D. Grace (b 1833/1852 d 11-1895) and Lucretia (b 1-1844) Grace. In
addition to Lucy, they had two other daughters, Sarah and Hattie L.
(12-1874), who married Jefferson Goodman, according to the 1900 Census
of James Bayou Township of Mississippi County, Missouri. The will of Judge
James D. Grace listed no heirs other than his widow, Lucretia.

!In 1910 Lucy and William were Undisclosed on Troy Road in Fulton County,
Kentucky according to the Census of that year. The Census lists the
children (Millie and Luther Hinshaw) and (Rosa Campbell (age 21), James
Campbell (age18), Tom Campbell (age 16) and Lucretia Grace, (age 66)
(mother-in-law) as Undisclosed in the household. The house was owned by Lucy.

!In court papers of the James Bayou Township, Mississippi county, MO
filed on 3-18-1913 regarding an action for non-payment of gas and oil in
the amount of $93.45 during 1912 owed to the Standard Oil Company it
appears that Dad, Lucy and her son, James, were is a partnership
involving three boats - the Mary, Dixie, and Fox. The claimed amount was
paid to Standard Oil in 1913. What the boats were used for is not known.

!Lucy petitioned for and was granted a divorce effective October 9, 1915.
Mary Ilene Fleming, and William were married on 11-17-1915 by Mr. J.F.
Williams, Justice of the Peace, in Shelby County, Tennessee according to
their Marriage License only one month after the divorce.

  1. 2.  Andrew Jackson Hinshaw was born on 10 Aug 1831 in Warren, County, TN; died on 22 Mar 1888 in Mississippi, County, MO; was buried in Brownsville Cem., Fulton County, KY.

    Notes:

!The Death Certificate of Nancy, the second wife of Andrew Jackson,
clearly shows her maiden name (Godwin), dates of birth and death.

!There is a contradictory statement on his son's (William Alfred's) Death
Certificate where she is shown as Nancy Tubbs, although this
    contradiction can be rationalized.

!The Nancy Tubbs information was provided to Missouri Vital Statistics
by his son Luther Milton Hinshaw (Sr.). However Nancy Tubbs was born
4-12-1885 and died before 1900. long after Andrew J's. children were
born. This listing of Nancy Tubbs is explained away when it is known
that her sister, Lela Frances Tubbs (1889-1978) married Oscar Jackson,
also a son of Andrew J., and Luther (my half-brother) incorrectly
    attributed Tubbs to A.J.

    !Andrew J. first married: Frances A. Goldsmith (born Indiana, 1838-39;
Undisclosed 1860; probably died about 1864. On 10-30-1856 according to
Mississippi County marriage records, and they had four children William
    T., (1858) George A. (1860); Isabella (1862) and Joseph (1863).

! Andrew and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jul 13 1860),
    Columbus District, Hickman County, Kentucky...
    A. J. Hinshaw, age 27, born in Tennessee; farmer; $500 real estate; $160
personal property; cannot read or write.
Frances A. Hinshaw, age 21, born in Indiana.
William T. Hinshaw, age 1, born in Kentucky.
Undisclosed two houses away was Thomas & Catherine Goldsmith, who might
have been the parents of Frances.

!He then married Mrs. Nancy McDougal on 9-1-1867 in the presence of
George O. Gibson and M.G. Malone. This is documented in the Hickman
County Marriage Book, page 358, The only way for Nancy Godwin to have
been married to A.J. if she had previously been married to a Mr. McDougal,
for the Godwin Generalogy clearly shows Nancy L. Godwin married to A.J.
and the names of their six children, N.C. (1868); John (1870); William
    Alfred (1873); Luther (1877); Lillie (1879) and Oscar (1881). The 1910
census for Mississippi County, MO lists Nancy L. Hinshaw as having been
    married twice.

!The 1860 census for Hickman Co., KY, Columbus Dist., dwelling 388,
family 368, page 494, shows A. J. Hinshaw, white, male, farmer, born
Tennessee, $500 real estate and $160 personal estate; married to Frances
A., age 21, born Indiana; William T. Hinshaw, age I, born
Kentucky; and one additional person in this household: Carroll Hinshaw,
age 22, laborer, born Temessee, probably a cousin. The marriage records
for Mississippi Co., MO, which is across the Mississippi River from
Hickman Co., KY, show the marriage of this couple as: Andrew L. (sic)
Hinshaw and Frances A. Goldsmith, on Oct. 30, 1856. The Goldsmith
family is shown in Hickman Co., KY, on the same census page as A. J.
Hinshaw and Frances A., his wife.

!The headstone in the Brownsville Cemetery, Hickman, KY for A.J. lists:
Born August 10, 1831, Died March 22, 1887. "Heaven now retains our
treasure; Earth the lonely casket keeps, and the sunbeams long to linger
where our sainted Father sleeps." His headstone adjoins his son, John S.,
    Rita's father (4-4-1870 to 1-18-1899) and Rita's mother, Lizzie (2-9-1880
    to 5-15-1897).

!The 1880 Census shows the following:
    A. J. HINSHAW Self M Male W 46 TN Farmer
    Nancy G. HINSHAW Wife M Female W 37 TN
Joe HINSHAW Son S Male W 16 MO At Home

Nancy, at age 78 in 1920 (listed as head of the household and only her
son Luther Undisclosed with her, she died 6-8-1927). She would have been 87
years of age. Frances (daughter of Oscar) said Luther claimed a reason he
never married was his obligation to his mother, also remembers that Nancy
was alive during the 1927 flood.
