    Notes:

    John Pullin and his wife, Mary Ann Murray, had one girl and six boys,all born in Mississippi. However they decided to come to Texas with several of the sons when plans were finalized for them to find a new home. We do not know whether the impending war between the states made them move, or just the idea of new lands to settle in Texas. John Woofer had made the trip to Texas and wrote back to the Butlers, telling of the prairies with enough grasses to feed large herds of cattle. At about that same time,John's daughter and her husband William John Massengale had moved their family to Little Rock,Arkansas .Butler history tells of the trip during 1852,and legend has it that John Pullin and family came with them
    Burnell Butler, and Sarah Ann Ricks Butler,came to Texas in 1852 from Scott County,Mississippi with their children. The trip was made overland in covered wagons,there were three ox-drawn wagons,the family and seven Negro slaves these wagons were the families of John Pullin and William Mills
    In September 1852 the train set out for the seemingly limitless lands known as "Texas". In this cavalcade were numerous ox teams and a "hack" dawn by horses. The families reached the San Antonio River on December 24, 1852. John Wofford had settled in Karnes County in 1848, and built a log house on what is now known as "Wofford's Crossing", his land was the goal of the Pullin-Butler wagon train and they settled just below his land on the west side of the San Antonio River. John and Mary Pullin,with their sons Hiram, Thomas, and Leavin settled into the Texas prairie not far from the Butlers. Hiram R. and his wife Candacy Butler Pullin brought two small children with them from Mississippi, with another child that had been born in Lavaca County during the trip west. Thomas Pullin had brought his wife Nancy Alzada Mills and their three small children, Along with Nancy's parents and siblings.
