Hiram and Sarah moved to Doylesville, Madison Co., Kentucky in the sprint of 1877. The purpose of the move was to remove Hiram from Breathitt Co. where he had shot and wounded Jerry Little, immediately after Little had shot and killed Curtis Jett, Jr., a brother of Hiram's.
Hiram died at the age of 40 from Typhoid Fever. Sarah moved the family back to Breathitt County to raise her children near her people. She was the niece of the two Hargis brothers, who had a store in Jackson. In 1989 she married the former High Sheriff of Breathitt Co., John Linville Hagins. She lived with him until her death on October 12, 1915 at Jackson, Kentucky.
Hiram was a joint administrator of his father's estate. He was also appointed, by his father, Curtis, in Curtis' will to be the guardian of Lucy Hearld, a seven-year-old, illigitimate child that Curtis Jett, Sr. had assumed the care of.
Like his father, Hiram believed in an education for his children. He gave a tract of land on the bank of Muddy Creek (Madison County) and provided the labor and materials for the construction of the Doylesville Methodist Church. Further, he gave land to build a school house and boarded the teacher in his home.
Since the land in that area had been cleared of trees for farming, Hiram sent word to his father, a prominent farmer, merchant, miller, horse trader, cattle buyer, and lumberman in Breathitt Co., who had no trouble in locating suitable logs, as there was much virgin timber on his 1100 acres. This land had been obtained through several Land Grants and purchases. Trees of durable yellow poplar were selected and hewn into logs of the right dimensions. They were floated down the Kentucky River to Doylesville. The logs were retreived from the river and construction started on the church. The Doylesville Methodist Church is sitll active and a Homecoming is celebrated once each year with a basket dinner on the grounds. Folks gather from far and near to renew old acquaintances and reminisce about "old times."

Curtis was a well-to-do farmer, merchang, miller, horse trader, and cattle buyer who spent his life in the Clay/Breathitt County areas of Kentucky.
Due to increasing troubles, brought about by the Little-Crockrell feud, and the Jetts having allied themselves with the Cockrells against the Littles. Curtis Jett purchased a 205.5 acre farm on Muddy Creek in Madison County, Kentucky from Noah H. Tevis and his wife (deed book 23, p 49) on January 8, 1877.
