"THE FINE FAMILY MOVES TO CALIFORNIA
John Fine the father of these families moved to Randolph County,
Arkansas between 1836 when he sold property in St. Louis and 1840 when
the family was counted in the Arkansas census. His wife Macy Warner had
probably already died since she is buried in St Louis, Missouri. John
and his six sons, with their families, moved in 1857 in California.
There were three single men, three married sons with their families, and
one niece, daughter of John's daughter Eda Ann who died in Missouri in
1856; 24 people, 9 adults and 18 chiIdren, three under one yeat old,
John was 60 when he headed West- Born in 1796 in Tennessee, he ended
his days in Woodville, Tulare, California
In 1854 Louis, the second son (b 1820 Missouri d. 1888 in
California was the first of the family to go to California; he was
seeking gold. then turned to farming. He was 34 and unmarried.
Probably it was at his urging that the move was undetaken in the spring
of 1857
David the eldest (b 1818 in Missouri and d. 1907 in California and
Rhoda Farrel settled in Modesto. Stanislaus County, California He was
39 when they moved and she was 27 Charlotte was 9 years old; John
Clinton was7; Betty and Louis were 5, Eda Ann (named for her dead
aunt?) was 7 months. Their other children who were born. in California
were Eliza Jane, (Jesse) born 1861; Mary S. born 1864; and Henry
Morgan, 1866 were all born in Modesto Stanislaus County CA.
