Major John Page

Notes:

Major John Page, son of Francis and
Susan (Nelson) Page, was born in 1821. Hewas a lawyer,
commonwealth attorney
for Hanover county, and during the war between the states
served as major on the
staff of General William N. Pendleton, chief of artillery, Army
of Northern Virginia,
under General Robert E. Lee. He was a member of the Protestant
Episcopal church,
and in politics an Independent. Major Page married Elizabeth
Burwell Nelson, who
bore him threesons, all of whom are men noted in their
professions--Thomas
Nelson Page, the noted author and diplomat; Rev. Frank Page, a
clergyman of the
ProtestantEpiscopal church, rector of St. John's Church,
Brooklyn, New York;
RosewellPage.

of "Brandon," Middlesex county, and son of Hon. John Grymes of
the same place,
was appointed justice of Middlesex in 1743, was a member of the
house of
burgesses in 1748, and, in 1749, was appointed receiver general
of Virginia. In
1751, he was made a member of the council and was present at
its sessions from
that year until the close of 1761. His long will, disposing of
a very large estate and
dated 1756, is on record in Middlesex. He was the father of
Philip Ludwell Grymes of
"Brandon," burgess for Middlesex county 1769, member of the
house of delegates
1778, and appointed to the state council in 1803; who died May
