New Church & Rectory dedicated Sunday July 2nd 1939 at 10'oclock with Solemn Mass said by Rev. Henry Benz--Bell donated by Mrs H Braden and sister Miss Katie Winkler. The dedication was as big success with a barbecue & Sausage dinner & Supper & all the trimmings, as dusty and windy day it was.

Steve met Sophia at a family gathering party in Cuero, Texas. On the day they met, Steve told Sophia that one day he would marry her. Not long after, he went calling on her and they were married at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cuero, Texas by Father G. J. Hendrick. They purchased a farm in Ratcliffe, Texas in the southern portion of DeWitt County and had seven of their eleven children in the house that they built on the farm. Steve farmed all his life. He farmed cotton, corn, peanuts, tomatoes and watermelons. He had a third grade education, but could speak Polish, German, Spanish and English very well, enough so that he fooled many a person who could only speak in one language. He was musically talented and could play the french harp (harmonica).
Stephen Joseph Zielonka helped build the Catholic Church in Yorktown, DeWitt Co.,Texas. His people (parents) are buried in the Cemetery there.

Stephen married Sophie Magdelin Hahn on 20 Apr 1915 in Cuero, Dewitt Co., TX, USA. Sophie was born on 25 Dec 1896 in Meyersville, Dewitt Co., TX, USA; died on 28 Mar 1982 in Cuero, Dewitt Co., TX, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Sophia was a house wife and had a sixth grade education. She enjoyed her family very much and was well remembered for her quilting parties. One year when she was in her 80's she made each one of her eleven children a handmade quilt as a Christmas gift. (Christmas was her birthday).

Throughout this Family Tree, along with its notes, etc. Edouard Louis Zengerle's name is spelled any number of different ways, from the way it is listed here on his family page to Eduard, Edward, and even an Edouward. It appears to have been recorded according to sound and with a flavoring of Alsatian, French or German, depending on where it was being written. His Brother-in-law Joseph Weiss, referred to the German dialect the Alsatian Zengerle's spoke, as "Pflatt-Deutsch", or Low-German, whereas his family coming from Bavaria, Germany spoke "High-German". One could assume that his name translates to Edward in English. Gram pa always signed his name as "Ed" Zengerle. Consequently, Edward Jr. was referred to as "Eddie" Zengerle.
