President of Washington College in 1838 in Lexington, VA. He was
president of Transylvania University in 1855 in Lexington, KY.

Militia. He took an active part in the affairs of Church and State.

! John Marshall had a plantation called "Curls Neck" near Apppomattox that
consisted of 1200 acres. The will was probated on May 26, 1752.

! John Marshall is known as "John of the forrest" because he built his house
in the forrest instead of on a river. He was High Sheriff of westmoreland
County and lived in the same place until his death 1752. His father-in-law,
Lewis Markham, had also been sheriff of Westmoreland County.
