    Notes:

William Strother was b., probably in Hanover Co., VA, about 1725. Fromthe failure of Francis Strother, of St. Mark's, to mention him by name inhis will, doubt has been expressed as to his being a son. But apart fromthis failure, the cause for which does not appear, there can hardly be areasonable doubt on the point. On Aug.1, 1727, Margaret (Thornton)Strother gave by deed to her son Francis Strother,of Hanover Co.,certain slaves with reversion to her grandson William Strother. Theconnection here would clearly indicate that William was the son ofFrancis, rather than of any one else, a conclusion further strengthenedby the fact thatnone of her other sons,so far as can be discovered fromrecords and other sources, had a son named William of his age. In 1749,there was a grant of 400 acresin Orange Co., forks of Rush river, adjoining Francis and John Strother, to William Strother, son of Francis, which grant was subsequently sold by William to John Strother. Rev.George Strother of Trimble Co., KY, b. in Culpeper Co., VA (son of JohnF. Strother, and Anne, dau of Capt. John Strother) was consequentlyagreat nephew of this William, and Undisclosed in the same region must haveknown him. The former has left a record in which he places William asson of Francis, of St. Mark's, and brother of his grandfather, John, whohe says was b. in Hanover Co. As shown following, the names of thechildren all show evidence of descent from a Dabneyintermarriage-----such as "Susannah" (name of the wife of Francis of St.Mark's, and also of his dau), and William "Dabney" Strother. He was alarge landed proprietor in Culpeper and Orange. He m., prior to Feb. 20,1752, (1) Mrs. Sarah (Bayly) Pannill, widow of William Pannill. She wasoriginally of Urbana, in Middlesex Co., VA. On Oct. 25, 1759, he as "ofthe county of Orange, Planter, and Sarah his wife, late widow and relictof William Pannill, late ofthe county of Culpeper," convey to her sonsWilliam and David Pannill 400 acresin Orange. His 1)wife d. I774 and hem. (2) Anne Kavenah (sic), bond dated June 9, 1775 (Orange records). Latein life he removed to Woodford Co., KY, where he d. 1808 (Owen, WilliamStrother of VA, 1898, pp. 17-19).

William married Sarah Bayly in 1750 in Hanover, Virginia. Sarah was born about 1720 in Urbana, Middlesex Co. VA; died on 23 Aug 1774 in Orange Co, VA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
