    Notes:

    Peter Brown II, son of Peter Brown (1), and Mary Brown, was born in Plymouth in 1632. With Governor Bradford, he was one of the thirty original purchasers of Dartmouth in 1652. He removed from Drexbury to Windsor, CT. He took the Freeman's Oath at Windsor in 1658, being then twenty-six years old. He married July 15, 1658, and was admitted to the Windsor Church on June 22, 1662. "July 17, 1659, the wife of Peter Brown appeared publicly to attain baptism for children". In the levying of taxes in 1675, his name appears as having a family, a horse, and two oxen. He volunteered a subscription of nine shillings and seven pence for the poor in other colonies on June11, 1672. He was a miller by trade, and allowed to take toll.
    In the Windsor burying grounds his tombstone reads: "Peter Brown, aged near 69. de dyed the 9th day of March, 1692."

    PETER BROWN of Plymouth and Dorchester, Mass., born in England about 1600; died in Plymouth, Mass., 1633; was one of the Signers of the Compact on board the Mayflower, 1620, was one of the seven which remained of all the Company of the Mayflower, able either to nurse the sick or to bury the dead, took charge of digging the graves and burying the dead of the Mayflower. Married (first) about 1623, Martha Ford, a widow and had 2 children, viz.: Mary and Priscilla; married (second) about 1628, Mary, and had 2 children, viz.: Peter and John.

    He was admitted a freeman in 1633. Mary and Martha Brown, probably his wife and elder daughter, had divisions of cattle with him in 1627. It is supposed that his first wife was Martha, and that Mary and Priscilla were her daughters and the two mentioned by Governor Bradford as married in 1650. In 1644, the daughters were placed in the care of their uncle, John Brown, a leading citizen of Duxbury. Peter Brown died in 1633, before October 10, and his estate was settled by the court, Nov. 11, 1633. Administration was granted to the widow Mary. He had several children, among whom was Peter mentioned below:

    Peter Brown, son of Thomas Brown, reached the rock-bound coast of New England, a member of that sturdy little band of Pilgrims who came to America in the "Mayflower". He was one of the thirty-three signers of the Mayflower Compact, and his name appears in Bradford's list of the Mayflower passengers, being spelled both with and without the final "e". He was a carpenter by trade, and shortly after his arrival in Plymouth, removed to Drexbury. When he came to America, he was unmarried. However, authentic record is found of his having twice married after his arrival. His first wife was Martha Ford, a widow, whom he married at Plymouth in 1624 or 1625.
