    James was a welder in a shipyard in 1942 and in 1946 or possibly earlier he and his brother "Bernie" owned and operated several service stations in Cuero, Texas. And about 1950-54 he and his family and children operated a fast food (with drive-though) operation near one of the Schools in Cuero.

    The Following is the Obituary of William Nicholas Arnold:
    W. N. Arnold dies early Saturday. Retired Cuero businessman succumbs after long illness, Service Monday. Rites at 9:30 A. M., Freund. Death came shortly after 3 A. M. Sat. April 22, 1944 to end the patient suffering of W. N. Arnold, Sr., 64, retired Cuero businessman died in local hospital where he was confined for some time. Service from Freund at 9;30 Monday. Funeral cortege to St. Michael's church then Hillside Cemetery. He was born Aug. 15, 1879, son of John & Fannie Bluntzer Arnold. He was married Goliad Co., Aug. 24, 1902 at Schroeder to Mary Angerstine. Six children were born, 4 survive. W N Arnold, Jr., Houston, S.Sgt. Bernie Arnold, somewhere in the North Africa, Oscar Arnold of San Antonio and James K. Arnold of Houston. 2 brothers, Albert Arnold of Rosebud and Ben of Ander, 4 sisters, Mrs, Mary Lutenbacher of Berclair, Mrs, Sopia Jacobs of Weser, Mrs Cecelia Jacobs of Weser and Mrs Fannie Fredericks of San Antonio. 5 Grandchildren. He lived in Cuero most of his married life, except of 5 years where he served as Postmaster at Berclair. He then became associated with R. C. Flick Auto Co., which later became Arnold Motor Sales.

    The following is from notes for Emile (Emil] Arnold and pertains to William Arnold:
    William Arnold went to France in Dec. 1965 and received information from Father Eugene Arnold a retired Catholic priest. Father Eugene Arnold was at that time 80 years old . He also received information from Joseph Julien Arnold of Kruth, Alsace, from Henri Arnold of Zimmersheim France, and Claude Gewiss of Waterloo, Belgium. Claude Gewiss checked the church and civil records in Oderen, Kruth, and Colmar, Alsace for William Arnold and verified the dates for him.
    William was working as a telegraph operator while Bernial Lee was born. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co.

    William married Mary Elizabeth Angerstien on 24 Aug 1904 in Cuero, Dewitt Co., TX, USA. Mary (daughter of Henry Angerstien and Catherine Winifred O'bryan) was born on 12 Dec 1881 in Goliad, Goliad Co., TX, USA; died on 11 Apr 1952 in Cuero, Dewitt Co., TX, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    John Arnold died in Weser, Goliad Co., Texas and is buried in STs.. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Meyersville, DeWitt Co., Texas.

    A note in a book by his Granddaughter, Effie Justine Arnold Zengerle, says that Jean Arnold came to Texas in 1854

    [from Arnold. FTW notes in the Arnold Family History by Phil Arnold]; According to records of Colmar, Alsace, Jean (John) Arnold emigrated to Texas in August of 1855. John acquired extensive lands near Weser on the Coletto in DeWitt and Goliad Counties. He also owned a General Merchandise store, a Cotton Gin at Weser and also operated a freight line by wagon. He is buried in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery at Meyersville, TX.

    Notes:

    This person is also known in Texas as Fanny Braden Bluntzer Arnold, wife of John Peter Arnold who is also known as Jean Piere Arnold, and the Jean is also called Jacques sometimes, or even John, which is how his family called him. One record has her name as Veronique Francene, and another lists her name as Frances Braden Bluntzer.

    The inscription on her tombstone is incorrect, in that she did not emigrate to Texas in 1842, but commenced the voyage to Texas on December 11, 1843, which consumed 121 days; so that in fact, she, and her family arrived sometime in 1844, probably around the middle of April.

    According to church records at Oderen, Alsace, where she was born, her baptismal name was Veveranda. She was 5 years old when she and her family departed from Oderen, Alsace, via Antwerp, Belgium, in December of 1843.

    John and Fanny acquired extensive lands near Weser on the Coletto Creek in DeWitt and Goliad Counties. They also operated a freight line (by wagon), they also owned a General Store and Cotton Gin at Weser. Fanny died in Weser, Goliad Co., Texas on Jan. 29, 1904, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank J. (Arnold) Gudat. She is buried in STs. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery at Meyersville, DeWitt Co., Texas.
