  Notes	Col. Lewis Burwell m. Anne Spotswood. He was first of the Tidewater VirginiaBurwells to move to Mecklenburg County. They moved from Williamsburg to "Stoneland" there in about 1771. Lewis had inherited several thousand acres alongthe Meherrin River from his father Armistead Burwell who patented the land in the1740's. This land was originally in Lunnenburg County but lay inMecklenburg when Meeck. was formed in 1765. Col. Lewis and Anne Spotswood Burwell hadeleven children wholived to maturity. After Anne's death in 1789, Col Lewis marriedElizabeth Randolh Harrison. They had four children who lived to maturity.
