  Notes	Luling Newboy: 24 Oct 1941 Sidney Shuler Smith Funeral services were held from the First Christian Church at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, for Sidney Shuler Smith, age ____. Mr. Smith was a devoted member of the Christian Church and had resided in Luling over nineteen years. December 29th next he and Mrs. Smith would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary had he survived. He was a pioneer of the old school, a man of rugged honesty, staunch and true. His word was his bond, and his best devotion had always been to his fellowmen. Without hypocracy in his soul, he forged life's pathway, a friend to those in distress, without envy and with malice toward none, he made the best of his opportunity in life in many ways, and when we say men of his character and devotion are few and far between today, we know it is exactly so, for his record has been written, and it is good to look upon. Mr. Smith was of the thorough and good old American stock. He was distantly related to Abraham Lincoln, our great emancipator. Men such as he have been the bulwark of our national strength, for they have hewn the pathway it would be well for all of us to pursue.
