REF: Fighting Kings of Wessex, G.P. Baker: Angeln is still on the map today, the seat of the ancient tribe of Angles, who later went to England. It is on the eastern coast of the Danish peninsula, just where, opposite the islands, the broken coast turns around toward Mecklenburg, between Flensborg & Slesvik, north of Kiel Bay. They were close neighbors of the Swaefe to the SE (later the Swabians of medieval Germany) & of the Langobardi to the south (who later drifted to Italy & became known as the dreaded Lombards).
