    • Dr. James Francis Marion Tate was one of the early physicians of Conway County Arkansas. He was born March 13, 1849 in Illinois. He received his literary education at the common schools of Illinois and studied medicine at the State University and the Medical College. After graduation he started his medical practice in his home town. In 1873, Dr. Tate came to Arkansas and located in Pope County where he resumed the practice of his profession. In 1876, he married Lavinia Cathryn Turnbow, the youngest daughter of John B. and Cathryn Turnbow.
      Dr. Tate was known as "Doc Marion" to the residents of the area. His practice was during the horseback days of the country doctor, when a buggy could not be used because of the lack of roads. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
      Dr. Tate died December 30, 1910. He and his wife are burri8ed at Appleton, Arkansas.
