"A.B.FINE PASSED AWAY SUNDAY MORNING"
"A.B Fine, age 63 years died at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. D. [Amanda]
King, on Roan Hill Sunday morning at eleven o'clock, following an attack of
pneumonia following a case of influenza. Mr. Fine was a mechanic at the
Johnson City foundry, where he had been employed for a number of years and
during the early influenza epidemic he was taken ill, but after a few weeks he
began to improve, however, his condition was much weakened and with a weak
heart and the pneumonia following he never rallied.
"Mr. Fine was a son of the late Major and Mrs. Abraham Fine, of Cherokee, one
of the oldest and best know families of this county. He was a great reader
and took an active interest in matters of state, national and county interest.
He was a democrat in politics and served as a guard at the state prison under
the administrations of the late Governor [Robert Love] Taylor and Governor
Buchanan.
"He was the father of fifteen children of whom, with his widow [Louisa Leach
Fine] survive him as follows: Greely Fine, Little Rock; Jasper Fine of the 8th
district, Walter Fine, Radford, Va, John Fine, Kenova, W. Va, Wess Fine, with
the American Expeditionary forces in France, Charles and Grady, who have been
located at Dante, Va., Mrs. Pettibone [Sophina] Gibson, Mrs. Ross [Nora Ethel]
Harris, Mrs. John [Margaret E.] Spada, Johnson City and Miss Arda Fine of
Cherokee and Miss Amanda Fine, Dayton Ohio. He is survived by one brother, E.
V. [Elijah/"Lige"] Fine of Elizabethton, and two sisters, Mrs. Sam [Callie]
White and Mrs. J. D. [Amanda] King, of near this city.
"The remains will be taken to Cherokee for burial Monday and interment will be
made in the cemetery at Greenwood, near his old home."
