(3) From "The Graham Leader", 13 Aug 1885: Mr. N.B. Rankin, in feeble
health, ask his daughters, age 19 & 17, to go upstairs and get a small
amount of spirits from a barrel just before supper. They did so, using a
candle which was held close to the faucet [sic] causing an explosion which
set the house on fire, instantly killing one daughter. The other died this
morning. Mr. Rankin's house was large and costly and the entire contents
were lost. He and Mrs. Rankin are barely alive.
