    General William Floyd served in the Revolution as colonel of the
    First Regiment of Suffolk County, and was a member of the first
    Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of
    Independence. He was elected senator in the first
    constitutional legislature of New York, in 1777, and appointed
    by the legislature as a member of the Continental Congress in
    1778 and again in 1779, and was a member of the First United
    States Congress, which convened in New York 4 Mar 1789.
