General William Floyd served in the Revolution as colonel of the
First Regiment of Suffolk County, and was a member of the first
Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of
Independence. He was elected senator in the first
constitutional legislature of New York, in 1777, and appointed
by the legislature as a member of the Continental Congress in
1778 and again in 1779, and was a member of the First United
States Congress, which convened in New York 4 Mar 1789.

William married Joanna Strong in 1785 in Mastic, Suffolk, Long Island, NY. Joanna (daughter of Benajah Strong and Martha Mills) was born on 4 Jan 1747 in Setwauket, Suffolk, NY; died on 24 Nov 1826 in Westernville, Oneida, NY. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
