Bufemia, the Daughter of Sir John de Clavering; and Margery, Daughter of John, the son of Marmaduke Thweng; and by the first of them had issue Robert, commonly called The Peacock of the North, unto whom Mary his
Grand-Mother gave the Cast1e and Lordship of Middleham. By the later he had none, and departing this life 18 April. An. 1331 (5 Edw.3) was buried in the Quire at coverham, near the High Altar; on the South side. Which Robert,called The Peaeoek of the North, died without issue in his Fathers life time, as it seems; for Ralph (the second Son) was found Heir to his Father, and at that time forty years of age and upwards; who had Livery of his Lands the same year, being then Steward of the Kings Household."

Schwennicke's ES 2:91 shows only that John Baliol's father was one Hugh
Baliol (Hugh de Bailleul), with no further information. He gives John Baliol and Devorguilla of Galloway 7 children: four sons (Jugh, Alan, Alexander, and king John) and three daughters: Ada (m. 1266 William de Lindsay), Cecily (d. 1289, no marr. or other info.), and Alianore, m. John the Black Comyn of Badenoch, who d. 1302 (mother of John the Red Comyn, murdered in 1306 by Robert Bruce). King John Baliol is shown as having had two children only, sons, Edward Baliol (anti-king, 1332-1356), d. 1363, and Henry Baliol, d. 1332.

John married Devorguilla Macdonald, De Galloway in 1233. Devorguilla (daughter of Alan Macdonald De Galloway Lord Galloway and Margaret Huntington) died between 28 Jan 1289 and 1290. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
