    He was a soldier of the Revolution as well as of the War of 1812. In the Revolution, he served as a lieutenant of Artillery in Whitehead Coleman's Company, Harrison's Regiment. As commander of militia after that war, he acquired the title of General and became known as, "General Madison".[Cheryl.FTW]

    He was a general in militia during the war of 1812.
